Looking at Vlogging
Spurred by the ROTLD announcement I started considering monetizing my blogs. That means, for most of them, a new look and more frequent posting. I started by looking at a few Romanian blogs and even considered vlogging or video blogging.

Submitting articles while preserving formatting
Virtually all websites accept now articles and most will actively court collaborators. While some have built-in mechanisms for article submission, many accept them by email only. Here we look at two ways to ensure that your article formatting is preserved without complicating the editor's life.

As blogging is dying, those of us who still cling to this habit are occasionally baited by news we'd like to think will come true, only to be proven otherwise. One such news items suggests that Microsoft might release the source code of Windows Live Writer or WLW.

Disqus support fatigue
#Disqus has become the de facto standard in commenting, being used not just by small blogs, but even major newspapers and other high-traffic sites. I was one of the early adopters of Disqus, after having tried the Blogger 'left-behind' system, then the Intense Debate which ended up acquired by Wordpress parent. Compared to alternatives, Disqus is still the best, but there have been and still are problems, and that is what this article is about.

Combining Two Blogger Blogspot Blogs
Labels:
blogger - blogspot
I have long ago started several blogs as I have quite a few areas of interest and points of view, some apparently contradictory. I wanted to explore different sides of my personality but as it often happens, I never had enough time to fully develop some of these blogs. Since I hardly have enough time to update them any more, it makes sense to combine some under one single address.

AdSense, Chitika and advertising alternatives

Back to AdSense
I recently decided to add AdSense to an older blog, hosted on Blogger, and using the old Layout. Here's how that went. This is one of the articles that is not necessarily meant for everyone, but rather for me to keep track of what I’m doing (i.e., it doesn’t take you from zero level, but the info here is probably more useful than what you get in such articles).

Google Plus vs Disqus comments on Blogger
I have recently learned via an email from Blogger that it is now possible to integrated Google Plus comments with a blog such as this one. Unfortunately, as of yet there is no reaction from Disqus and there does not seem to be possible to have both.

Customizing your 404 - Page Not Found
Earlier this year Blogger made it possible for its publishers to customize its "404 - Not Found" page, the page someone sees when going to non-existent address. Today we look at donating it as space for a PSA (Public Service Announcement)..

Blocking an IP address from accessing your blog

I have recently noticed in one of my blogs typical spider activity. A certain IP would visit, then proceed to access only the updated articles or the articles with new comments, within seconds. For a while, I considered blocking this IP, then I decided on a better solution.

Adding floating buttons (Facebook, Reddit, Pinterest, Twitter, GPlus) to Blogger
Sometimes, the Blogger provided buttons just don’t work. Here, rather than bother with that, we’ll just make buttons float to the right (though they can also float on the left.

Fixing Aspire blog template bug
Labels:

I’ve been meaning for a while to take a look into a blog template based on Aspire bug (I added a widget section that spans the two shorter ones and it’s moved down). Before doing so, I looked at the only blog that has implemented it successfully.

The original version of this page was removed by our provider following a bad faith / false DMCA request. To have it reinstated, we would have to agree to be governed to the laws of a foreign country. While we are considering our options, we are republishing this page with any controversial code under password protection.

More harassment from Google
After having my Google Plus account suspended for daring to protect my identity even while following Google policies to the letter and then having to deal with another suspension whose sole explanation was "suspicious activities", I find yet another email from this corporation, this time accusing me of running AdSense ads on pornographic content. But is that content really pornographic?!?

I see more and more blogs with articles containing an invitation to print it. If implemented properly this can be a significant convenience for the reader and as such it is worth exploring.
